Is a chat box really necessary?

Chat boxes on forums are nice for a quick chat and they often get utilized, but they definitely take away from the purpose of the site. If members are posting in the chat box, they aren't posting in the forums. That's just my two cents.
Also, the chat box is offline for me. Do I need to create an account for the chat box?

nope. you don't need so. But i'm thinking of removing it since I like Cbox more.
